LABIC - Laboratory of Computational Intelligence

The Laboratory of Computational Intelligence was founded in 1995. It is part of the Department of Computer Science of the Institute of Mathematics and Computer Science at the University of São Paulo, Campus of São Carlos.

The laboratory invests in teaching of qualified personnel, development of research projects and consultancy. The Computational Intelligence group develops research in Computational (Artificial) Intelligence techniques and applications. The problems tackled by the group researchers usually require some sort of automatic knowledge acquisition from the application domain and, therefore,  cannot be solved by conventional computational techniques.

In particular, the group has focused on the research areas of Knowledge Discovery from Databases (Data Mining), from Textual Documents (Text Mining), and from Sequential and Temporal Data (Sequential and Temporal Data Mining); Machine Learning (fuzzy and crisp); Graph Learning and Genetic Algorithms. Our research has been applied to a number of diverse application domains including Medicine, Bioinformatics, Entomology, Engineering, Agro business, Education and Finance.
